2011 Enrollment: 60

2011: YouthBuild Rockford was established in 1995, making it one of the oldest YouthBuild programs in Illinois. As part of the Rockford model, students receive vocational training in either urban agriculture or construction; new members will receive training in January through a grant from the US Green Building Council’s GPRO training program. On the construction side, students are rehabilitating homes in Rockford as part of a partnership with the Swedish American Hospital Foundation in Rockford. Additionally, they just completed YB Rockford’s second LEED-certified, single-family home.
For its next project, the organization is in discussions with the Rockford Housing Authority to help build new housing and commercial space as a replacement for a recently-demolished public housing complex (the historic Jane Addams Projects).
