YouthBuild Jefferson and Marion County
Established: 2006
Parent Organization: United Methodist Children's Home
CEO: Gary Lemmon
Program Manager: Richard Marlow
2011-12 Enrollment: 15
Recent/CurrentFuture Projects: Centralia High School conversion, Mt. Vernon and Centralia homes, Helping Hands
2011: When Jefferson and Marion County’s YouthBuild program needed to relocate its Centralia campus, the organization moved into the vocational area of Centralia High School’s old building—and it kept its organization busy during the process. Renovations for the former high school were performed by students and staff, who are especially excited to make use of the old school’s, old school wood shop. On November 21, the organization hosted the local community to a grand opening to celebrate the completion of its work.
Besides converting high schools into office buildings, YB Jefferson and Marion County has rehabbed two houses for sale in Mt. Vernon and Centralia, is in the process of acquiring additional rehabilitation projects in each of those cities, and has found employment opportunities for recent gradates through Helping Hands.
